(a room with a washing machine. as music starts, a man walks by with a laundry basket. a boy comes up, whacks the side of the machine so it starts running, then he sings)

Boy: when you're eating spaghetti
And it gets all over your shirt

Little boy: (coming in) when you're making mud pies
And you come home covered with dirt

Man: when you look like you live in a pig pen
And you don't even know why

All: (joined by a young lady, an older lady, and a lady with glasses)
When you look like guck from your head to your toes
Who knows what to do with those dirty clothes
Let's do the wash!

Glasses lady: it makes your clothes so clean

All: let's do the wash!

Little boy: just put 'em in the washing machine!

All: i love to hear that soap and water slosh

Boy: so come on, baby

All: let's do the wash!

(all swing their heads round and round, imitating the action of the washing machine)

Young lady: when you're skippin' rope
And the rope trips over your shoe

Glasses lady: when you've got an ice cream cone
And it drips and it sticks like glue

Older lady: when you just try to jump a puddle
And somehow it gets on you

All: i know a way that i bet we could
Get those dirty clothes lookin' good
Let's do the wash!

Young lady: it gets your clothes so clean
